I'm going to be explaining all kinds of tips and tricks to outsmarting, outplaying your opponents from the basics to more advanced techniques. This will be updated constantly.

Beginner
Basics [These basic things to keep in mind are essential]

Mindset
To be a successful player in the long run you should have the right mindset going into, during, and exiting a game.
Entering a game- Try not to look at the opposing team's service record as this could affect you giving you a mental disadvantage when the opposing team has a better service record than you. (better win loss ratio, higher skill, ect) Its best to treat all opposing teams the same.
During the game- Try having a optimistic and calm mentality during the game. When you become frustrated players tend to charge and rush more often trading and feeding kills to the opposing team. Don't be one of those players who take out their frustration on their teammates or blame the game for their mistakes. Take responsibility for your errors and learn from them.
After the game- Losing a game can be very frustrating but can be a chance to view theater and see where you went wrong. We all have our bad and good days.

Weapons
Battle Rifle The Battle Rifle is such an essential weapon in all maps w/ the exception of high ground ( which is a stupid map ) This weapon is extremely effective at all ranges and can provide great oppression fire.
Sniper Rifle It would be very wise to familiarize yourself with this weapon. Effective use of this weapon could turn the tide of the game or completely obliterate the opposing team.
Rockets Always position yourself higher than the enemy when using rockets. Try not to be sneaky with them either because losing rockets could be very disastrous for your team.

Familiarize yourself with all Halo 3 weapons.

Strafing
Strafing is a very effective way to make your opponent miss if not all some of their shots. There are numerous strafes that include.
Short Strafe- The short strafe consists of a strafe to the left or right for about .5-1 steps either way
Long Strafe- The long strafe consists of a strafe to the left or right for about 1.5-4 steps either way
Tap Strafe- The tap strafe is a tap to either side of the move stick to make you're opponent overaim
Note: Jumping when you're shields are down could mean life and death especially if the enemy has a weapon that gives the head shot bonus. Jumping will make it harder for the enemy to pull off a headshot unless they have a sniper of course.

Form a team
One of the most effective and smartest things to do when trying to learn and get better at halo 3 matchmaking is playing with a group of friends around your skill level. Not only is it much more relaxing and fun to play with a group of friends but you can also constantly communicate with your teammates allowing you to have better teamwork than the opposing team.

Call outs

One of the first things you should do to become a better player is to learn map call outs. Using call outs with your teammates could be the deciding winning factor and have a tremendous effect on how games turn out. There's nothing shameful about using call outs; all good players and even pros use them constantly.

Basic Tips and Tricks
The Basics- Here's a list of some basic tips to keep in mind.
1.High ground(not the map) is always better than low ground.
2.Don't Charge an enemy unless you're positive you can clean the kill
3.Never Push by yourself unless you're holding a power weapon like rockets or leading a rush.
    4.Always try to keep a short/long short/medium weapon combo. (assault rifle/Battle Rifle) (Mauler/Sniper) (shotgun/Sniper)
Crouching Spartan hidden Shotgun- This trick is very effective to new and unaware players. Basically if you have a shotgun, mauler, sword, gravity hammer, or plasma rifle crouch behind a corner near a door or opening and when an opposing enemy comes through, BOOM, dead before he even knew it
Crouching- When used in gametypes with motion sensors. Crouching makes your dot disappears from the enemy's radar making the enemy second guess where you are and will be. This method can be used to sneak up on an enemy or catch them by surprise.
