Multiplayer

On a single console, up to two players can play campaign and up to four can participate in a versus multiplayer match through use of split screen. Through use of LAN or Xbox Live, up to four players can play together in campaign, up to eight can customize a map in Forge mode, and up to sixteen can participate in versus multiplayer matches. (Each console must retain their respective split screen limitations.) A public beta test of the game's online multiplayer features, as well as saved films and file share, took place four months before the full release.[32] Statistics from all games that are completed by players while connected to Xbox Live are also uploaded to the respective player's "service record" on Bungie.net.

Players must actively seek out other players through their Xbox Live Friends list, using the party invite system, or the LAN search feature to play multiplayer matches with their own custom rules and customized maps. If they are connected to Xbox Live however, a player can choose to have the game decide for them the exact rules and map to play on, as well as finding additional people to play against or with, using the "Matchmaking" system (the automated grouping of players of similar skill). A player will decide from a selection of developer designed "playlists" which each contain a certain way to experience the game. The games contained within a playlist can range from 1 vs 1 free for all, to 8 vs 8 team play. Often focusing on either deathmatch games (known as "Slayer" in Halo), objective games (e.g. Capture the Flag) or a combination of the two.[33] The playlists are regularly updated; either to remove unpopular types of games or map variants, fix ones that do not work well, or to introduce entirely new gametypes or whole playlists.

Like other multiplayer Xbox 360 titles, Halo 3 uses a customized version of TrueSkill ranking system for its matchmaking on a per-playlist basis (i.e. a player's performance in one playlist will not affect who they are matched against in another playlist). On top of this, a linear measure of a player's experience with the matchmade portion of the game and each particular playlist (as of TU2) is also tracked (denoted as XP).[34] Rank insignia are unlocked and displayed by a player's Gamertag as they attain certain totals of XP (and/or skill level). To help players have an enjoyable time online, several peace-of-mind features are implemented within easy reach, such as avoid/feedback options on a player's service record, as well as voice chat mute straight from the in-game scoreboard.[35] Like Halo 2, Halo 3 supports downloadable content and updates.[36]

Foundry - A well balanced map when playing on it''s default setting but with this map you can erase everything and make your own map and play on it.

Valhalla - A good map if you like vehicle wars, there is a spartan laser in the middle to take em out to.
Image

Image

Weapons by Ashthera

Assault Rifle - The basic weapon of the game, it is very powerful weapon but with no headshot bonus to it meaning that you won't be able to kill them with a bullet in the head, a few bullets and a melee will kill a person.
Image

Battle Rifle - My favourite and the most versatile weapon in the game, this weapon is a 5 shot kill if all the bullets hit and the last on is a head shot in team slayer and only a 4 shot in the MLG gametypes, this weapon can shoot well at any distance but the farther your target is the more you must lead your shots meaning that you must point you aimer where the target is going to be instead of where they are. Here are some videos demonstrating how to use the battle rifle.

Image

Carbine - The carbine is the battle rifle of the covenant, it only fires one bullet at a time unlike the battle rifle but it shoots faster and a bit more accurate, great weapon to finish people off with an accurate head shot.
Image

Sniper Rifle - The sniper rifle is a deadly but hard to master weapon, it kills with either 2 shots to the body or a 1 shot to the head, it takes practice to use so if your unable to pull of a head shot with this weapon go practice in a custom game with some friends, an essential when using the sniper rifle is strafing, its easy to keep the sniper rifle head level and strafe side to side until it's on your enemies head and BOOM! easy kills :)
Image

Rocket Launcher - The rocket launcher is a great way to pick up easy kills, if you hit them or it blows up beside them it's an instant kill, the further away they are the less damage it does though so be carefull, most likely your enemy is gonna jump around in the air trying not to get hurt by the rockets so point it where they are gonna land and estimate when your gonna need to shoot so it hits the ground when they hit the ground.
Image

Shotgun - A great weapon for close encounters, shotgun is ussually an instant kill when your right up in your enemies faces but if you shoot to soon it only takes off their shields so make a habit of meleeing right after you use the shotgun so your sure to kill them right after.
Image

Energy Sword - The energy sword is a nice weapon to camp around the lifts on construct with, the sword is an instant kill with the lunge and a 2 hit kill with the normal melee, if you try and switch weapons to it it takes a while so be careful and make sure your save behind a wall before you whip it out and take some limbs.
Image

Needler - The needler is a powerful but a very unaccurate weapon, if you shot half a clip of it into someone and they all hit it will blow them to pieces but this weapon can easily be avoided by jumping side to side, also this weapon is a awesome way to take out a person with the overshield, if they hit him he won't know what hit him.
Image

Plasma Pistol - This weapon isn't a weapon you can kill someone with, it is soley used for taking out someone shield or disabling a vehicle for a limited time, to use this weapon properly you must hold down the fire button and charge it up and fire at an enemy but it will ONLY take out their shield so be sure to keep a weapon to finish them off with a great combo is the plasma pistol and the battle rifle.
Image

Pistol - The pistol is a fun little weapon to use it's a fairly powerful weapon, like the sniper rifle and battle rifle it has a head shot bonus so if you your enemies shield is down you can kill them with one shot with the magnum.
Image

Brute Shot - The brute shot is a great way to take out a group of enemies shields, it is a grenade launcher that takes out an enemies shields with a couple shots, great for team games where you can take out enemies shields and let your team mates pick em off.
Image

Gravity Hammer - The gravity hammer has an instant kill if you hit someone that's close enough it also can kill multiple people at a time so it's great if you see enemies around the corner with your radar and you wait till they come around the corner and smash them to bits and pieces.
Image

SMG - An SMG is a weapon to use if you like to dual wield weapons, it has good damage if your dual wielding it against someone.
Image

Spartan Laser - The spartan laser is like the sniper rifle but 10x easier to use, it's an instant kill and can obliterate vehicles so for those maps like standoff it's essential that you obtain it before the other team.
Image

Mauler - The mauler is like a miniature shotgun, no matter how close you are it will only take out someones shield or hurt their shields so be sure to use that melee right after you take those shields out.
